Pumpkin Jack O'Lantern (Cucurbita pepo)
We have chosen this easy to grow variety especially to encourage children into the garden. They could grow their very own pumpkin in time for halloween.
Large deep orange fruits of up to 24lbs on thick stems. Makes a great lantern for the kids at halloween, and the tasty flesh is extremely good for you too.
Indoor Planting:
Sow seeds 1.5cm deep in trays of moist compost, be careful not to over-water. Store in a warm location.
Growing On:
When the seedlings are strong enough to handle they can be transplanted into bigger pots or trays. Do not overcrowd the plants and keep in a warm, light position. Once all chance of frost has passed the plants can be transplanted direct into your desired location in June. Harden off first.
Outdoor Planting:
Sow seeds 1.5cm deep in flowering location, thin to above spacings. Provide protection from the cold. Turn the fruits regularly for consistency of colour. Pumpkins need to be watered on a regular bases, do not let them dry out.
